My dear Bob.

I feel I must lend you a few lines to tell you th our Honor is going to marry Godfrey Spragge on Tuesday [i.e. 28 May] at the Clumber Private Chapel. The Admiralty had promised him a Home job for 16????: and on Friday [17 May] before Whit [...Sunday: 19 May] wrote cancelling this & saying that he would be ordered abroad at once – so we had to get to work at once & arrange something in a week. It is all now fixed up – and the number who have accepted is about 120. We have a house full & are billeting people all over the place. We should be over 20 at dinner on Monday night. I am so sorry that you & Gwen will not be able to come but we knew it was only an empty ???????? to ask you –
Love from us all,

Your affect.
Arthur E. Elliott.

Marriage Announcement

This newspaper clip, with the pencil note "Times, 29.5.1924", was sent to me by Charles Baron:

"LIEUTENANT G. J. E. SPRAGGE, R.N. AND MISS ELLIOTT

The marriage took place quietly yesterday at Clumber Private Chapel, Notts, of Lieutenant Godfrey John Elliott Spragge, R.N., son of the late Colonel B. E. Spragge and Mrs. Spragge, of Denbie, Lockerbie, Dumfriesshire, and Miss Edith Honor Lister Elliott, elder daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur E. Elliott, of Sparken House, Worksop. The Rev. R. C. F. Scott officiated, assisted by the Rev. F. B. Hawkins.

The bride, who was given away by her father, wore a beige georgette dress, with a hat to match, and carried a bouquet of Harrisii lilies. Miss Ruth Elliott (sister of the bride) was the only bridesmaid, and she wore a pink and white flowered chiffon dress, with a hat to match, and carried a bouquet of pink and red tulips. Lieutenant S. Harrison Smith, R.N. was best man. A reception was held afterwards at Sparken House, Worksop."

A second clipping sent by Charles includes a picture but is difficult to read.
